Welcome to the Penzance Choral Society website.

Here you will find information about one of the oldest mixed voice Choral Societies in the country and possibly the most western! Cornwall is an area with a rich history of choirs and singing and we are proud to be a part of that. This site contains details of our past, present and future with our 150th anniversary drawing ever closer.

We perform two main concerts a year, one in May and another at Christmas, and we have also sung in local churches at special events.

Our most recent concert was a performance of The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins.

Local reviewers noted that the work was 'Performed with fervour, commitment and passion' and that 'Soloists, chorus, instrumentalists and conductor are to be congratulated on a very fine performance', and also 'One of the most memorable and moving performances ever given by Penzance Choral Society'.

Penzance Choral Society will begin rehearsing on the 4th of January for their 2008 Spring concert when the Society will perform
Elijah by Mendelsshon. The Society is delighted that the internationally renown Cornish born singer Alan Opie will be singing the role of Elijah. The concert will also feature soloists from the Royal Academy of Music.

This performance marks the start of the celebration of 150 years of Penzance Choral Society.

This Society owes its existence to the worthy and highly talented Conductor Mr J H Nunn, R.A.M., who then obtained the able assistence of a Commitee of gentlemen
headed by Mr T S Bolitho and Mr E H Rodd, who have manifested throughout the kindest interest in its development.
January 19th 1859.
